That is no wonder because HP aimed at delivering a better performance in the new server edition. At the same time it was necessary to leave room for expansion, so customers could upgrade their server with ease. So let’s look under the hood!

Spec-wise, ProLiant servers benefit from the latest Intel Xeon processors. The server may include either one or two CPUs. Meaning that the total number of cores can be increased up to 18. If you are not hunting after the most powerful option, then the HP ProLiant DL380 GEN9 server with Xeon E5-2650v3 processor is an appealing solution. In any case, you get a solid performance gain over older HP servers. Up to 70% in some computing tasks. Another important feature of this server is the compatibility with many server operating systems, including Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Solaris, Citrix XenServer, and others. Once again, HP lets customers choose the best solution.

Regarding networking possibilities, HP tries to impress with the support of four embedded Gigabit Ethernet ports per controller. Additionally, the company offers FlexibleLOM or PCIe standup adapters. The latter is available in versions from 1 GbE up to 40 GbE.

In order to handle all that, HP developed proprietary software. Including a special administration and intelligence system named Integrated Lights-Out. With iLO customers get Agentless Management, Active Health System, and Embedded Remote Support. However, HP did not left iLO unchanged: with the help of a new Adaptive ProLiant Management Layer it is easier to bring up to date fan and thermal data without disruptions of workflow.
